Actor and poet Craig ‘muMs’ Grant, whom you may remember for his role in ‘Oz’ de HBO and who was a regular collaborator of Spike Lee, has died at 52 years of age.
Although the cause of his death has not been officially determined, the LAByrinth Theater Company, which he was a member, confirmed his death in a statement:
“The LAByrinth Theater family is deeply saddened to share the news of the unexpected loss of Craig ‘muMs’ Grant. We will always miss our friend, brother, LAB member, emcee, mentor, poet, actor, giant of the word talk and fire-breathing teddy bear. His presence, performances, and words from many inspired a generation. His legacy will live on, from the Bronx and beyond. Keep shaking the mic, Schemer! “
In ‘Oz’ Craig ‘muMs’ Grant played the character of Arnold ‘Poet’ Jackson, an inmate and heroin addict who recited poetry for his fellow inmates. Film-wise, Grant collaborated with Spike Lee on several occasions, appearing in films such as ‘Infiltrators in the Kkklan’. He also worked on ‘Birdman’ under the orders of Iñárritu and in the most recent ‘Good Time’.
Kirk Acevedo, who worked with Grant in ‘Oz’ and who played Miguel Álvarez in the series, wanted to say goodbye to him like this: “My brother from OZ, I spent a lot of time with this man on the set. Too many incredible stories.”
