Ever since Princess Märtha Louise (49) came into the world in 1971, the public has followed her closely both in her upbringing and in her adult life.
As a royal, you apparently live a life that is not like many others, but in 2002 Märtha Louise did something drastic. Then she relinquished the form of indictment “Her Royal Highness” – a title she received at birth.
The decision naturally ensured that she was given more leeway than her brother, Crown Prince Haakon (47), and her parents, King Harald (84) and Queen Sonja (83). The royal couple’s only daughter has in all years had its own squint at the world, which has resulted in several controversial business opportunities for the princess.
In 2007, as is well known, she launched the self-development concept Soulspring – better known as the English School, which has provided both rice and praise from the people and the press. Several believed that the princess’ commitment to angels, among other things, influenced the Royal House’s reputation.
When Princess Märtha Louise now visits the podcast of Erik Bertrand Larssen, «Bertrands Univers», She remembers, among other things, how she experienced it when she surprised the whole country 14 years ago.
–
– From the time I started in 2007 until now, there has been a huge upheaval. Then (in 2007, journ.anm) I was “completely crazy”, I was going to “be admitted” and people thought that I was completely insane, like, that I was not safe to have out in the community, the princess says frankly.
Furthermore, Märtha states that someone from the church said that it was wrong to believe in angels, and adds that no one has ever asked her what she really stands for.
The 49-year-old, who was born into a very special family almost 50 years ago, says that a lot was said about her at the time, and many thought she was far outside the field she was born to be in.
See and Hear royal house expert, Caroline Vagle, thinks people were simply shocked and did not quite understand what the so-called “angel school” was.
– People knew that she might be a little alternative, but when she started this school, it all became very concrete, says Vagle, and continues:
– She told that she was a psychic and that she saw angels. There was a lot to digest for many, and as always when something different comes up, there was a lot of fuss.
–
Vagle thinks this is something the princess just has to accept.
– It was like that then and it will always be like that. As the king’s daughter, she will always have the spotlight on her, and that should only be missing. But having said that, there is perhaps generally more openness to alternative thinking in society today, and it has been seen that the royal house is just as stable even if the king’s daughter does her thing, says the royal house expert.
– Clearer separation
Vagle believes it is important to point out that if you disagree, then it is a matter and not a person that should be discussed.
– What Märtha says about her being branded crazy in 2007 does not belong anywhere. Even if one disagrees, yes, in anything, it is not very fruitful to label the other party as crazy.
Vagle also thinks that Queen Sonja said it well to BT a few years ago: “I understand well that someone reacts. But to reject everything she stands for, it will be too hard again. We do not know who is right in the end. We must be open to the fact that things may be different than we think. Märtha is one of those who has well-developed abilities. I do not have it. But still one must respect that other people are different, and have different abilities. Just think of the witches who were burned at the stake because they thought the earth was round.
Vagle also points out that the difference between now and then, is also that there has been a clearer distinction between the Royal House and the princess’ commercial projects.
–
– And I think it is very important that they have got in place. Today, she can not use the title in commercial contexts, she says.
Dagbladet has been in contact with Princess Märtha Louise’s manager, Carina Scheele Carlsen, who states that the princess does not want to comment on the matter further.
Got advice from the king
As it stormed heavily around Märtha and her career choices, her father King also came on the scene.
– It is probably not always as parents we agree with our children. The important thing for us is that they know we love them, King Harald told Aftenposten in 2011.
The princess herself has said that her alternative career choice has been a burden for the family.
– Yes, of course it was a burden. And there were meetings at the Palace – in support of me, she has said in a longer interview with Magasinet.
–
She still has no regrets.
– My father has always said, be honest and true, otherwise you will be seen through. He has probably regretted those words a few times. But you have to be true, the princess said when she visited “Skavlan” in February.
The episode of “Bertrand’s Universe” as Märtha Louise’s guests, will be available next Monday.
