The Oncology Service of the Bilal Esgaib Ward reported yesterday that a complex surgery was performed at the Regional Hospital, called radical gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y reconstruction. A 51-year-old man from Hernandarias was intervened.
The patient was diagnosed with diffuse adenocarcinoma gastric cancer by Lauren’s classification. The man underwent a gastrectomy during the shift on Wednesday and lasted 4 hours and 30 minutes. “The surgical intervention consists of the removal of the stomach. The procedure consisted of radical surgery, total gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy and restoration of the transit with jejunal Roux-en-Y esophageal anastomosis, ”says a report released by the Tenth Health Region.
He adds that radical surgery is the one that provides the highest probability of cure for a non-disseminated cancer, because it completely removes the tumor and all the most likely areas of spread.
This complex procedure was carried out by doctors Emilio Brizuela, Raphael Fernández Figueira, Danilo Duarte and the team of professionals from Hospital Regional CDE.

The 31-year-old female MN patient from San Alberto was diagnosed with left breast cancer. This patient underwent bilateral mastectomy surgery and breast reconstruction with an anatomical prosthesis. The intervening surgeons were Cecilia Gómez, specialist in mastology, Rossana Giménez specialist in mastology, assistant, Fernanda Fernández, resident of general surgery in other professionals, all of the Regional Hospital.
The local Oncology Service recalls that it has highly trained specialists in the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients diagnosed with cancer. 450 to 500 patients are cared for monthly, for different specialties. The most frequent cancers seen here are breast cancer, cervical cancer is very closely, and then there are other pathologies such as colon and lung cancer, among others.
The oncology service is relatively new. It has been in operation for a year and three months. On December 28, the first year of operation of the pavilion was celebrated, built exclusively for the operation of the Oncology Unit of the Regional Hospital of Ciudad del Este.
