Zurich researchers want to save Covid-19 patients with magnets

The life science industry has created over 5,000 jobs in the canton of Zurich over the past ten years. That doesn’t just help the economy.

At Molecular Partners in Schlieren, protein molecules are being developed that will also be used to combat Sars-CoV-2.

They develop drugs against Covid-19 disease or use magnets to fish toxins out of the blood. These are just two of the business models of companies that have settled in the Bio-Technopark in Schlieren. In the mid-1980s, ETH began setting up laboratories where railway wagons and elevators were once manufactured. What started out small has now grown into a life science cluster. 55 companies with 1500 employees in the fields of pharmaceuticals, bio and medical technology cavort on the area. And are thus a symbol for a rapidly growing industry.
