Sachsenkam – The European Metropolitan Region Munich Association (EMM) awarded the prize for Building Culture – Growth with Quality last week. The house for children in Sachsenkam is among the eight objects that were awarded the prize.
The municipality of Sachsenkam needed a day-care center for 100 children that is barrier-free, inclusive and suitable for an open educational system. In a joint process with the municipal council and the kindergarten staff, the project was developed in just six months and implemented with Beham Architects. On the ground floor, three group rooms were arranged around a central center. On the upper floor, the group and homework room, the public multi-purpose room, the workshops and the staff rooms were organized around this center. Corridor areas and the central interior area are part of the spatial usage concept. The modern building was built as a combined timber structure, the wood of which comes from the local district.
In addition to the spatial quality and the appropriate handling of questions relating to the choice of materials, their persistence and sustainable commitment, the jury praised the willingness of the municipality to address future issues with this project and to create added value for the entire municipality through the multi-purpose hall. For the third time, the Association of European Metropolitan Region Munich has awarded the prize for building culture in cooperation with the Bavarian Chamber of Architects, the State Capital of Munich, the Bavarian City Council, the Bavarian Municipal Council and the Federal Foundation for Building Culture. The award is under the patronage of the Bavarian State Minister for Housing, Building and Transport Kerstin Schreyer.
The focus of the award was on the subject of “growth with quality” and thus selects places for good coexistence that deal particularly well with the challenge of growth. A total of eight projects from the Munich metropolitan region received an award. “The implementation of Baukultur requires attitude, competence and courage,” said Christine Degenhart, President of the Bavarian Chamber of Architects, opening the digital award ceremony for the Baukultur award on Monday, March 15. The patron of the award, Minister of State Kerstin Schreyer, addressed the audience with a video message, emphasizing that “in the cultural state of Bavaria in particular, building culture is an important community task”. “In building, quantity shouldn’t take precedence over quality, the built environment and thus the building culture ultimately have a major impact on people,” the minister added. The winning projects thus offer both large and small municipalities in the Munich metropolitan area suggestions for future construction projects.
