JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – DKI Jakarta DPRD member Gilbert Simanjuntak criticized the policy that allows non-folding bicycles to enter train cars MRT Jakarta.
He compared it with the policy of traders who are prohibited from bringing a pole into the Jabodetabek KRL.
“Traders who only carry a carry-on for their living needs cannot enter KCI (KRL) from Bogor and Bekasi, cyclists (instead) get facilities,” Gilbert said in a short message, Thursday (25/3/2021).

Gilbert said the reason merchants were prohibited from carrying their merchandise on KRL was because they were considered to be disturbing other passengers.
In fact, according to him, carrying a non-foldable bicycle into the train carriage is much more disturbing to other passengers.
“I don’t see this policy as pro-people,” said Gilbert.
He considered that the policy only benefited some passengers, especially cyclists.
This is far from a sense of justice for people who do not own bicycles and only walk.
“It’s strange that bicycles (are allowed) to enter public transportation in Jakarta. That is no longer a means of transportation, but a burden of transportation,” said Gilbert.

Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan tried to try out a new policy allowing cyclists to bring non-folding bicycles into train cars, Wednesday (24/3/2021) yesterday.
The MRT Jakarta policy to allow non-folding bicycles to enter train cars was conveyed by the President Director of PT MRT Jakarta William Sabandar on Wednesday (17/3/2021) last week.
“We are also preparing, if so far, folding bicycles that can enter the Jakarta MRT train, we are limitedly preparing facilities for non-folding bicycles to also ride the MRT,” said Wiliam.
The maximum dimensions allowed are 200 centimeters x 55 centimeters x 120 centimeters with a maximum tire width of 15 centimeters.
In addition, there are special hours for transporting non-folding bicycles, namely Monday-Friday with the exception of the busy hours of 07.00-09.00 WIB and 17.00-19.00 WIB.

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria said that this policy was made because he wanted to provide opportunities and encourage people to use bicycles as a means of transportation.
“Yes, we provide opportunities for the community, as it has been said that we encourage people to use bicycles not only as a sporting tool, a recreational tool, but also a means of transportation,” said Riza through a voice recording received on Wednesday.
Riza said that the policy of allowing non-folding bicycles to enter MRT cars has been regulated.
According to him, non-folding bicycles can be put in the last carriage. Even though they have been allowed, the number of non-folding bicycles that are allowed to enter is still limited.
PT MRT Jakarta has also added facilities in the form of rails on the station stairs to make it easier for cyclists to bring their bicycle onto the train.
“It has been arranged in the last carriage to have a place and the number is limited gradually and a kind of rail has been prepared for bicycles on the stairs,” said Riza.
In the carriage that is specifically intended for non-folding bicycles, Riza said, the manager has given signs and markers for arrangement.
In addition, entry hours for cyclists are also regulated. Cyclists carrying non-foldable bicycles are not allowed to enter during peak hours.
Thus, the existence of this policy is said to not disturb other passengers, especially during peak hours.
“So in principle, the MRT, we, the provincial government, provide the best support for the people of Jakarta who use bicycles, to be able to use bicycles to outdoor activities, to offices, to other places of business,” said Riza.
