If we were to believe the French newspaper Le Parisien yesterday, it is already certain: Paris-Roubaix will not take place on April 11, but may be postponed to later this year.
The news came after the prefect of Hauts-de-France saw his region go into lockdown for 4 weeks. But the French Minister of Sport says today that no decision has been taken yet.
“Let it be clear that this is a department where the health status is problematic,” said Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu.
“There is no final decision, but perhaps the course will be postponed. The local prefect has already said that there is a possibility of postponement. He is thereby taking his responsibility, although we are still in talks with him.”
Organizer ASO has not yet responded to all messages and statements. With a postponement, the Helleklassieker could possibly be driven at the end of the season. Last year, Paris-Roubaix was completely canceled, Philippe Gilbert won the last edition for the time being in 2019.
