REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NEW DELHI – India reported the highest daily number of COVID-19 cases since October 23 last year, namely 53,476 cases. According to data from the Ministry of Health on Thursday, (25/3) there were a total of 11.8 million COVID-19 infections in India. This is the third highest figure in the world after the United States and Brazil.
The country of Bollywood also confirmed 251 new deaths from COVID-19. The total number is 160,692.
The Ministry of Health on Wednesday (24/3) said that India found multiple mutant variant new COVID-19. These findings add to concerns as the government struggles to cope with record daily cases and deaths of COVID-19 this year.
Genome sequencing and analysis of samples from the State of Maharashtra detected mutations in the virus, which previously did not match the “variant of concern” (VOC).
Maharashtra is one of the Indian states hardest hit by the pandemic, but the ministry said it was unclear whether the new variant caused a spike in the region or in other states. India has reported a number of cases of the COVID-19 variant which initially appeared in the UK, in South Africa and in Brazil.
