Are you more of Facebook, for that of gossiping and remembering the birthdays of ‘friends’ and family? Or are you one of those who use Instagram for the possibilities to share images and hesitate to your colleagues with your stories? Or do you like Twitter for its ability to inform, misinform and polemicize in 240 characters? Or are you looking for a job or are you open to job changes and have a good tool on LinkedIn? Social networks are already part of our life. They are in our day to day through the phone, the tablet or the computer. Many of us cannot live without them, without taking a look at some of those that have been with us for years. It is not a case only of Valladolid or Spain. “49% of the world population currently uses social networks, which represents an increase of 321 million profiles compared to 2019”, collects the agency ‘The Social Media Family’. To put it in context, in 2014 it was only 26% of the population. The ‘Digital in 2021’ report indicates that 29 million users (62%) in Spain have a presence on a social network and spend around 2 hours a day on these platforms.
The Social Media Family has just released a new analysis on the penetration of social networks in the 50 most populated cities in Spain (using sources from the platforms themselves). And in it, Valladolid remains among the 20 that most use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. In fact, in some of them it is close to the top10.
Facebook continues to be the preferred social network for Valladolid people, with 230,000 profiles, 30,000 more than last year. This means that 80 percent of its citizens are on this network. And that it is ranked 14th among the Spanish towns with the most profiles. The age-related data reveals that half of the users are between 40 and 64 years old (with 110,000 profiles), followed by the 18-39 age group. One of the most followed profiles on this network is that of Real Valladolid, with 258,000 fans.
After Facebook, the most used network in Valladolid is Instagram, the only one that has grown steadily since its birth 10 years ago. With 170,000 profiles, it ranks as the 16th city with the highest penetration, growing by 40,000 in the last year. The age group that most uses this network in the capital is the one under 40 years of age and women are more common than men.
Twitter is the fifth social network in Spain after YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, despite a decrease in the last year. A decline that has not been noticed in Valladolid. Perhaps the fact that it is the most used by politicians, such as Óscar Puente, Pilar del Olmo or Manuel Saravia; or due to its controversies worldwide, it has made it grow in about 200 profiles in the last year in the city, reaching 31,747, with about 8,000 assets, and 12th place among the 50 most populated cities in terms of users. Real Valladolid, with 352,000 followers, is once again the most influential profile. Valladolid Day, with almost 50,000, is another of the most followed.
LinkedIn has 14 million registered users who declare they reside in Spain and holds the seventh position among the social networks preferred by its citizens. In Valladolid there are 130,000 profiles, placing it as the 15th city in Spain with the largest implantation. Profiles from 25 to 34 years old represent 59% of all users.
But there are more options: TikTok, Snapchat, Pinterest, Twitch … And the number keeps growing.
