Ceiling painter Peter Schubert from Dresden died

Peter Schubert was best known for his ceiling paintings. The artist, who was born in Dresden in 1929, died on Sunday in his Berlin studio, the Peter Schubert Society announced on Wednesday, citing the family. Schubert was 92 years old.

The artist became known, among other things, for his ceiling paintings in the Great Orangery of Charlottenburg Palace. At this place of his work he was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 2010.

Roots in Dresden

Schubert was born in Dresden in 1929 and grew up in Wehlen in Saxon Switzerland. From 1947-49 he studied at the Dresden Academy in the class of the landscape and portrait painter Prof. Wilhelm Rudolf, then with Willi Baumeister in Stuttgart, Fernand Léger in Paris (1952-53) and Hans Uhlmann at the Academy of Arts in Berlin ( 1954-57).

Since 1957 he worked as a freelancer. In addition to his work in Charlottenburg Palace, his works can also be found in the German embassy in the Vatican, in the Saarland State Theater in Saarbrücken, the Bundeshaus in Berlin or the village church in Damsdorf, Brandenburg.
