According to a survey of members of the Federation of Education Professionals affiliated with the Centrale des unions du Québec, one-third of the 3,000 respondents are thinking of quitting their jobs.
The reasons mentioned target the overload of work, the management framework of the school network which does not sufficiently recognize the expertise in the 35 professions requiring university training and the lower salary than in the private sector, which causes recruitment difficulties.
The president of the union at the national level, Jacques Landry, asks the government to review all the support scales, both on the requirements of medical diagnoses prerequisite for care and on the precariousness of jobs.
Professional staff in education refers to the non-teaching professions in the network who hold university degrees, such as psychologists, occupational therapists or speech therapists.
According to the federation, the current employer’s offer to improve working conditions, mainly by offering training, represents $ 75 per professional over three years, a proposal that it considers ridiculous.
