Vasil Garvanliev remains the Macedonian participant in “Eurovision”. This was decided by a specially formed commission from the Macedonian Radio and Television, after 5 days of reflection and after the sharp reaction of our Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva today. The colors of the Bulgarian flag – white, green, red, which appeared in the video for Vasil’s song, aroused the passions in our western neighbor. Because of this association, the staff had to be deleted. The appearance of the three color boards at the National Art Gallery in Skopje turned out to be an installation by the artist Janeta Vangeli and has been there for several years.
Garvanliev’s confession that he also has Bulgarian citizenship, because his grandmother is from the Bulgarian village of Igralishte, further inflames the passions near Vardar. However, the Commission is adamant that no one has the right to be discredited on the basis of religious, national or other self-determination, especially since there have been other such cases at Eurovision. The eventual refusal to participate in the song festival would cause financial and other effects on the MRI, would damage the image of the state. However, the Commission takes into account the polarization of society in this case and proposes that participation in international cultural events be seriously considered in the future.
