A work by British street artist Banksy, in honor of healthcare workers, was auctioned on Tuesday in London for a sum of 16.75 million pounds (19.45 million euros). That is a record amount for the artist. The amount will be transferred to the UK healthcare sector.

The black-and-white work entitled Game Changer, which was estimated at 2.5 to 3.5 million pounds, eventually went under the hammer at Christie’s for more than four times. This broke the previous record for a Banksy: Devolved Parliament was sold for 9.9 million pounds (11.5 million euros) in 2019.
Game changer shows a little boy leaving his Batman and Spiderman dolls in the rag basket. Instead, he plays with another doll: a superhero cape nurse.
Hospital
Banksy sent the canvas to Southampton General Hospital during the first corona wave in May, with a note saying, “Thank you for everything you do. I hope this brightens things up a bit, even if it’s in black and white. ‘
All those months, the work hung in a hall near the emergency department and was a support for staff and patients. It is replaced by a reproduction.
