Boulder The police responded to a shooter in a supermarket in Colorado with a large contingent. Several people died in the incident and one suspect is in custody.

According to police, at least ten people were killed in the firearms attack in a supermarket in the US state of Colorado. “We know of at least ten fatalities,” said the chief of police in Boulder, Maris Herold. A police officer was also among those killed. A motive for the crime was not mentioned. Investigators had only just begun to evaluate evidence and the hearing of witnesses, said prosecutor Michael Dougherty.

The police had previously reported that a suspect had been arrested. He was hurt. The police did not provide any information on the motive, with reference to the early stage of the investigation.

The police responded to an emergency call on Tuesday afternoon with a large offer and surrounded the shop complex. Special forces were also on duty. The security forces called the suspect over the loudspeaker to give up. Eyewitnesses reported several gunshots and motionless people on the floor of the supermarket.

The killed 51-year-old police officer had been with the police since 2010. According to police chief Herold, he was the first to arrive at the scene after an emergency call. “He was one of the most distinguished officers at the Boulder Police Department from what is reported,” said District Attorney Dougherty. His life ended too soon.

District Attorney Michael Doherty said, “It’s a tragedy and a nightmare.” White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said US President Joe Biden has been informed of the Colorado incident and is being kept informed.

Boulder is about 25 miles northwest of Denver and is home to the University of Colorado. The US state has had a history of gun robberies and deaths, including the Columbine High School massacre in 1999 and a raid on a movie theater in Aurora in 2012.
