The Fucam reported that it will no longer be able to provide free breast cancer treatments, since it no longer has an agreement with Seguro Popular
The Breast Cancer Foundation (Fucam) reported that it will no longer be able to provide free treatment against breast cancer, since it no longer has the collaboration agreement of the defunct Seguro Popular that covered 70% of the cost of the treatments; now you will only be able to provide care with low recovery fees.
“The patients undergo a socioeconomic study and thanks to the support and empathy of our allies and providers, the recovery fees offered are lower compared to other private institutions,” Fucam reported in a statement.
Likewise, the non-profit civil association announced that during the last 15 months, and in the midst of the pandemic, patients were informed that the Seguro Popular would no longer cover cancer treatment at Fucam, despite this, at women who were treated free of charge during that period thanks to the support of donors.
In this sense, they detailed that with the donations, 673 patients with radiotherapy sessions, 229 patients in chemotherapy, 1,962 doses of white therapy, 277 patients in palliative treatment, as well as 401 surgeries could be attended to.
However, they pointed out that at present there are still patients with pending cancer treatments, which can no longer be fully covered in the foundation.
As part of its work, the Fucam specified that they will support in the channeling and admission of patients to government institutions that treat breast cancer, through information, support in the process for their appointment, advice and accompaniment.
“During this process, Fucam will ensure that they do not lose their treatment during the time it takes to enter another unit,” the founder and executive president of the foundation, Fernando Guisa Hohenstein, said in the statement.
La Fucam recalled that since January 1, 2020, he stopped working with the defunct Seguro Popular; The treatment phases that the patients began in 2019 were covered by the previous scheme, but the phases that began in 2020 were no longer.
