Sahin and his wife Özl Türeci received the highest German award from President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for developing the first covid-19 vaccine.
In an interview at the Turkish embassy in Berlin, oncologist and businessman Sahin commented on the use of two different vaccines for two doses due to cuts in supplies from the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca and the decision of some states to suspend vaccination with this vaccine. Sahin said it should be possible, but it needs to be tested.
