The first lady is interested in maternal care

Special interest in maternal, child and adolescent health care, as well as that received by cancer patients, has shown the first lady of the Republic, Raquel Arbaje, who in recent months has visited at least four specialized hospitals .

Among the hospitals visited by the first lady in the company of the director of the National Health Service (SNS), Dr. Mario Lama, are the Maternal and Child San Lorenzo de los Mina, the Rosa Emilia Tavares National Cancer Institute (INCART), the Hospital Maternal Doctor Evangelina Rodríguez, in Santo Domingo, as well as Juan Pablo Pina, from San Cristóbal, at the inauguration of a Comprehensive Adolescent Care Unit.

In October last year, Arbaje visited the San Lorenzo de Los Mina Maternal and Child Hospital to start the day of free check-ups to detect breast cancer.

The day was developed as part of the Prevenir es Vivir campaign implemented by the first lady together with the SNS and the National Health Insurance (Senasa) and the Caminantes por la Vida Foundation.

In the month of October, 1,500 women were assisted, of which 255 are assisted with more in-depth examinations, according to the details offered by the SNS.

New equipment

Arbaje also visited the Rosa Emilia Tavares National Cancer Institute (INCART), where, together with the director of the SNS, they delivered new equipment for medical use to reinforce care and services.

The equipment delivered were beds with mattresses and rails, gynecological stretchers, beds for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), including a scale and rolling surgical aspirators.

He also learned about the operation of some areas of the health center and interacted with patients.

During their visit to the Evangelina Rodríguez hospital, a center that was previously part of the network of hospitals of the Dominican Institute of Social Security, they left a new Mammography Room in operation, with state-of-the-art equipment.

Meanwhile, at the Juan Pablo Pina hospital, he accompanied Dr. Lama in the inauguration of a Comprehensive Adolescent Care Unit with the aim of providing personalized attention to patients between the ages of 10 and 19. The area has a multidisciplinary staff coordinated by a health professional specialized in Adolescent Care.
