The late winter growth in fresh snow over the past few days attracted many ski tourers to the Salzburg mountains over the weekend. In the Flachgau there were accidents with two injuries.
On Sunday, a couple from Vöcklabruck went on a tour from the Kühleiten car park in Tiefbrunnau (Faistenau municipality) at 8 a.m. 1478 meter high Pillstein broken up. The couple reached the summit around 10.30 a.m. after climbing over the Stubneralm.
Because of the low temperatures on the summit, the Upper Austrians decided to descend immediately. At an altitude of around 1050 meters, the 57-year-old woman drove her skis into a snow hollow, where she fell and broke her fibula. Her 56-year-old husband alerted the emergency services.
The team of the emergency doctor’s helicopter “Christophorus 6” brought the injured person to the university hospital in Salzburg after she had been removed from the dew.
The next ski touring accident occurred an hour later, this time in the area of the Zwölferhorn in St. Gilgen. At 9:30 a.m., a 57-year-old from Ried im Innkreis set off from the Laimerlift car park with his 36-year-old daughter and her partner for a ski tour in the direction of the striking 1515-meter-high summit.
But 300 meters below the Zwölferhorn, the trio decided to break off the ascent and return to the valley. After a few swings, the 57-year-old fell and injured his right knee.
Due to the ongoing operation on the Pillstein, the C6 emergency doctor’s helicopter was not available, which is why five people from the St. Gilgen mountain rescue service transported the injured person to the starting point of the ski tour via Ackja. There he was taken over by the Red Cross Strobl and taken to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Bad Ischl.
