Putin criticizes the EU’s “confrontational” stance

Michel, in turn, blamed Russia for tensions in the relations between the two sides, Brussels said.

The Kremlin said Putin had assessed in a telephone conversation the unsatisfactory state of Russia-EU relations, which had been caused by the EU’s “unconstructive, often confrontational stance”.

Putin has emphasized that Russia is ready to restore “normal depoliticised” relations with the EU if Brussels shows such a wish, the Kremlin said.

Brussels said that Michel had indicated in a telephone conversation that the relationship between the two parties had reached a low point.

“Relations with Russia can only take a different direction if sustained progress is made on issues such as the implementation of the Minsk agreement, the cessation of hybrid and cyber attacks on member states and respect for human rights,” Brussels said.

According to the Kremlin, Putin and Michel also discussed the fight against the new coronavirus and the possible use of Russia’s Covid-19 vaccine “Sputnik V”, as well as the situation in Ukraine and Belarus.

EU Internal Market Commissioner Terry Bretton recently said that the EU did not need Sputnik V. Moscow called these Breton statements manifestly biased.
