The veteran receiver DeSean Jackson signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams, to return to his native Southern California after 13 NFL seasons on the East Coast.
The Rams announced the acquisition this Sunday, adding to the objectives that the new quarterback will have Matthew Stafford.
Jackson spent his first six seasons in the NFL and the last two with the Philadelphia EaglesBut he barely saw action in eight games in the past two seasons due to injuries.
The explosive receiver had his best season in 2013, with 82 balls caught for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns for the Eagles, followed by a couple of 1,000-yard campaigns with Washington.. Jackson also played a couple of years with Tampa Bay before rejoining Philadelphia in 2019.
Jackson, 34, was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the Crenshaw district. After a brilliant career at Long Beach Poly, he snubbed USC’s interest and played three years at the University of California.
Jackson will join Robert Woods, also a native of the Los Angeles area, and Cooper Kupp as the Rams’ top wide receivers.. Josh Reynolds, the team’s third wide receiver last season, remains unsigned in free agency and Van Jefferson is anticipated to see more action in 2021 after intermittent activity last year.
To be healthy, Jackson gives coach Sean McVay a long-haul threat for an offense that didn’t have as much verticality last season. Jackson has led the NFL in receiving yards four times in his career.
