“During 2020, the SEI drew up 3,777 protocols on administrative offenses in the field of water resources, calculating UAH 188 million in losses,” the statement said.
It is noted that the situation with drinking water is deteriorating due to the discharge of hazardous substances, insufficiently treated wastewater and clogging of rivers.
So, the service cites data from meteorologists, according to which the concentration of toxic compounds in rivers is 30-40 times higher than the maximum permissible standards.
“Therefore, according to the forecasts of the Institute of Water Problems and Land Reclamation, by 2050 Ukraine will have to import drinking water,” said the head of the State Environmental Inspection Andriy Malevany.
In this regard, he urged to prioritize the protection of water resources in Ukraine.
“Last year, a memorandum of cooperation was signed with the State Water Agency, within the framework of which we are working to create a system for operational monitoring of the state of water bodies,” Malevany said.
