New York Metropolitan Opera plans virtual gala with stars

The opera announced this on Monday (local time) in New York. It will be an “artistically great, but technically simple implementation”, said opera director Peter Gelb, who wants to moderate the gala from his apartment in Manhattan, together with music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin from his apartment in Montreal, Canada. The more than 40 musicians would sing live in front of their computers at their respective locations and connected via Skype. The event should lift the mood of the audience and bring the musicians back together with their fans.

In addition to Netrebko from Vienna and Kaufmann from Munich, musicians from the USA, Switzerland, Poland, Malta, France and South Africa, among others, are to be included.
