Calgary suffered the first defeat of the new year with Tobias Rieder. Superstar Alex Ovechkin moves closer to Mario Lemieux in the all-time goalscorer list.

The Islanders lost 2: 6 (1: 1, 0: 2, 1: 3) to the Rangers on Monday evening (local time) in Madison Square Garden in the “Battle of New York”. Kühnhackl was on the ice for 17 minutes, while Greiss was substituted on for almost ten minutes after the 1: 6 – the 33-year-old was able to keep the Rangers’ only shot at his goal. The Islanders and Rangers will meet three times in the two weeks leading up to the All-Star Weekend at the end of January.
Artemi Panarin was the man of the evening. The Rangers’ top scorer contributed two goals and three assists to make it 6-2. Jordan Eberle gave the Islanders the lead in the first minute, but the Rangers were not impressed. Jesper Fast equalized in the first third (9th), Chris Kreider (26th) and Adam Fox (32nd) turned the game. Panarin then put the lid on with a double pack (41st, 49th). After Jack Troubas 6: 1 Greiss came into the goal with the Islanders and could no longer be overcome. Rather, Brock Nelson managed to make a little cosmetic result with the 2: 6.
The Calgary Flames with Tobias Rieder meanwhile suffered their first defeat in 2020. After five wins in a row since the beginning of the year, the Flames lost 0: 2 (0: 1, 0: 0, 0: 1) in a Canadian duel with the Montreal Canadiens. Rieder stood on the ice for almost ten minutes.
Ovechkin sets himself apart from Selänne
Superstar Alexander Ovechkin scored two goals for the Washington Capitals to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0. It was his goals number 685 and 686. He is now only 11th in the all-time top scorer list ahead of the Finn Teemu Selänne (684). To overtake tenth-placed Mario Lemieux (690), the 34-year-old Russian is only five goals short.
