(Ecofin Agency) – US Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed a desire to work with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan. The two nations maintain good trade relations, and several investment projects are planned.
In a post on the social network Twitter, US Vice President Kamala Harris congratulated the new President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The United States and Tanzania have good trade relations. In 2019, trade between the two countries amounted to $ 462 million. U.S. foreign direct investment in Tanzania amounted to $ 1.5 billion in 2019, an increase of 5.2 percent from the previous year according to U.S. government data. The Office of the US Trade Representative is working to forge a new trade and investment partnership with the East Africa subregion.
Samia Suluhu Hassan became Tanzania’s first female president on March 19 after the death of President John Pombe Magufuli from heart complications. Aged 61, the one Tanzanians affectionately call “Mama Samia” will be in charge of the country until 2025. She will face several challenges, including that of pursuing the major projects launched by the former president, or the fight against corruption among others.
