72 migrants removed from boats on the Channel

The French navy has collected 72 migrants from two boats in the Pas de Calais. The boats had left Calais and were on their way to Great Britain.

There were eleven children on board, the French authorities say. All crew members are doing well, they have been brought to Boulogne-sur-Mer in France.

Since the end of 2018, illegal crossings of migrants trying to reach the UK via the Channel have risen sharply, despite repeated warnings of high risks.
