Zack Snyder’s Justice League has an R-Rating. And that’s for good reason. Director Zack Snyder explains in an interview with Variety why he thought this was so important.Snyder told Variety that the gore he chose in his film, “a pure exercise in creative freedom” is. The filmmaker said that this also fits within the underlying theme in the film: the way in which god-like characters behave in the heat of battle.

“I wanted to make this the way we would if there weren’t any hassle with ratings. Don’t think about it too much and do what we thought was the coolest. Snyder said.
“For me it’s always important to look at the consequences. There really has to be something at stake. Often it stays a bit abstract. But it’s about gods fighting people. And that’s part of the point. We can’t. fight them, at least not really. “
