FRANCE: Total, king of maritime gas supply

This new license follows the 10-year agreement signed in 2019 for the development of an LNG bunkering logistics chain in the port of Singapore. As a reminder, Singapore is the largest LNG bunkering platform in the world, with 20% of the market share.

It also underlines Total’s confidence in the role of natural gas for the energy transition of the global maritime industry and in its potential to further reduce carbon emissions from ships, through the development and future introduction of neutral bioLNG in carbon.

Major hub

“We are proud to have obtained the LNG supply license from the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority. Singapore, which is the largest conventional bunkering center in the world with a 20% market share, is well placed to become a major hub for LNG as a marine fuel, “said Alexis Vovk, Director of Marketing and Services at Total.

“Asian LNG bunkering demand is growing and Singapore’s contribution is essential for the development of a global LNG bunkering market. Going forward, Total will continue to scale up its investments to deliver greater value. of its integrated natural gas supply chain to customers serving this important region, contributing to our goal of serving more than 10% of the global LNG bunkering market. “

Infrastructures GNL

Total has actively invested in LNG infrastructure, which is essential to support the adoption of LNG as a marine fuel by its transport customers. Since November 2020, Total has been operating the world’s largest LNG bunker vessel, the “Gas Agility”, in the port of Rotterdam. By 2022, the company will launch another newly built LNG bunker in Marseille (France), while serving the port of Singapore with a third. As part of its strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in maritime transport, Total has simultaneously chartered two VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carriers) and four Aframax-type vessels, all equipped with LNG propulsion, which will be delivered. in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

Total’s active efforts to develop LNG bunkering for maritime transport are part of the company’s climate ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, with society. In addition, it embodies Total’s broader business strategy towards the industries it serves, focusing on solutions to reduce the carbon intensity of energy products used by its customers around the world.
