Freeze chat

If you always want to see a contact or a chat history at the top of your WhatsApp list, you can fix it. To do this, press the contact with your finger until it is highlighted. Share location

If you want to quickly share your location with a user, click on the paperclip symbol at the bottom of the chat, or on the “+” symbol on the iPhone. In the menu that pops up, select «Location». In order to be able to share the location, you have to activate the GPS function of the smartphone.

Quickly quote the message

Users can quote their own chat messages and those of contacts. To do this, press the desired message until it is highlighted. In the menu above you now choose the arrow pointing to the left. This is how you quote the message in the current chat history. It’s faster if you swipe the desired chat message to the right.

By the way: With the arrow to the right you can send the message to another contact or a group.

Set the notification tone and light for contacts

You can give each contact an individual sound, a vibration and a light signal. To do this, click on a contact’s name in chat with them. Now his profile opens. Select “My notifications” or “My tones” (iPhone) to make various settings.

Save chat messages as favorites

If you want to save a chat message for later, you can mark it with a star. To do this, press the message you want until it is highlighted. Now select the star in the menu above.

To call up the saved messages, click on the three dots at the top right in the window with the contacts. The saved messages can be found under the item “Starred”.

Change backgrounds

The backgrounds in the chats can be changed in the settings. You tap in the window with the contacts on the three dots in the top right corner, then on «Settings». On the iPhone, select the “Settings” tab at the bottom right.

Next you choose «Chats». Here you can find the option «Backgrounds». WhatsApp provides various sources to choose from, for example the gallery.

Update contacts

If you have a new user in the address book, you have to select him from the contact list in order to start a chat. Sometimes, however, the contact may not appear. In that case it can help to update the list.

To do this, click on the green symbol at the bottom right in the window with the chats. A list of all contacts will now appear. Now click on the three points in the upper right corner and then on «Update». The contact you want should now appear in the list.

Turn off group messages

If constant group notifications are annoying, you can either leave the group or mute the group chat. To do this, click on the chat that you want to mute. iPhone users tap the group name in the chat window to open the settings menu. Next you choose the three dots on the top right and then «Notify. mute.”

Now you can set whether the messages should remain silent for eight hours, a week or a year. The same thing works in chats with individual contacts.

Find common groups

To check which groups you share with a contact, click on a contact’s name in chat. Now his profile opens. Now you scroll down until you see the tab «Common groups».
