As hospitalizations continue to rise, education ministers are being asked to come up with a plan to reduce the number of infections in schools. “I wonder why the Ministers of Education were sent to the table, and not the Ministers of Work,” says infectiologist Erika Vlieghe on Sunday in De Zevende Dag.

According to Vlieghe, the cause of the number of increased infections is certainly not only in the schools: the workplace also appears to be an important source of infection, just like the family. “On Friday, a little too much attention was focused solely on education, negative attention,” says Vlieghe. “I fear it will be easy to store. But we have to look where the virus is: everywhere. In schools, but also at work and in our private life. And I have heard very little about that. It’s out of balance. Much clearer steps must also be taken in those other components. ”
It is not just about teleworking, says Vlieghe. “Safety in the workplace, for example. There was a lot of attention for the schools, and rightly so, but for those other things, family, private life, contact professions, the workplace, there was hardly any attention for that. ”
