Moscow, March 21 (EFE) .- The Russian ambassador in Washington, Anatoli Antonov, arrived in Moscow this Sunday for consultations after the president of the United States, Joe Biden, called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin a “murderer”. which Russia promised not to ignore.
The plane in which the Russian diplomat was traveling landed at the capital’s Sheremetievo airport at 11.00 local time (08.00 GMT).
Antonov was called in for consultations after Biden answered affirmatively to a question about whether he considers the Russian leader a murderer in an interview on ABC on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, in a first reaction to Biden’s statement, Russia announced that it is calling its ambassador for consultations in order to analyze bilateral relations and determine Moscow’s next step.
The Kremlin described current relations with the US as “very bad” and assured that it will not ignore the “unprecedented” words of the US president.
At the same time, Russia assured that it is willing to continue relations with the US, since these respond to the interests not only of the two countries, but of the entire world.
“We always trust the best, but we are prepared for the worst,” said the spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dmitri Peskov.
Antonov, a former Russian deputy foreign minister, is expected to stay in the capital long enough to determine Moscow’s next steps in its deteriorating relationship with the US.
