A safe path | Editorial

Confirmed as the best and safest way to fight the coronavirus pandemic, mass vaccination must be accelerated to achieve group immunity that allows the recovery of the desired normality. Gaining time at the same time requires depositing the confidence in the solutions provided by the different administrations and in pharmaceutical research, being aware that it is necessary to establish a weighted exercise where all the added benefits of a procedure that confirms, as in the case of the older population living in residences, its success. Vaccination is the surest way to stop a disease that is causing millions of deaths around the planet.

There is no doubt that if we were to play with time in favor and all the ordinary procedures were not subject to a criterion of urgency, the decisions adopted would also be supported by other approaches. Likewise, if the calendars and the availability of vials were quite different from the current ones, other protocols could also be applied – no more secure than the current ones – other than those of a global emergency. The evidence is well known to all and only confirms the seriousness of a situation that has not dispensed with the research and scientific demands. Vaccination is, without a doubt, the best and safest way to stop the pandemic and its spread is a guarantee of survival for hundreds of thousands of people. As recognized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the benefits, in relation to the doubts raised by the Astra Zeneca vaccine, outweigh the possible risks, so it seems logical that the processes are resumed as soon as possible.
