THE BALL – Abramovich and Chelsea’s “lashes”: “We are pragmatic” (England)

Frank Lampard was the most recent ‘victim’ of Roman Abramovich. In 18 years as owner of Chelsea, the Russian billionaire fired a total of ten coaches, among them the Portuguese José Mourinho (twice) and André Villas Boas.

“We were pragmatic in our choices,” he begins by explaining in an interview with Forbes. “We are always comfortable making the right changes at the right time to guarantee our long-term goals.”

“All the coaches who signed for the club knew about the club’s goals, both on the field and the role that the club plays in the community,” he added, justifying why he didn’t look at the means when firing a coach:
