Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir is now again aggressive in the soccer scene. This time, Erick bought shares in a football club in England, as well as overhauled the management of the Persis Solo football club.
This week, the Indonesian consortium Erick and Anindya Bakrie increased their investment by buying shares of the Oxford United football club owned by Thai businessman Sumrith ‘Tiger’ Thanakarnjanasuth, and controlling 51% of the majority share ownership of the 126-year-old London city club.
Media reports in England on Friday (19/3/2021) wrote that in the next week the Indonesian consortium will complete the share purchase transaction, as well as submit a business plan for approval from the English Football League.
Meanwhile, the legendary club in Solo, Persis Solo, will have a new management dominated by millennials. The position of President Director of PT Persis Solo Saestu (PT PSS) is held by Kaesang Pangarep. Meanwhile, Mahendra Agakhan Thohir, Erick’s son, will become the President Commissioner of PT PSS. =
The decision was taken at the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) of PT PSS on Saturday (20/3/2021). This provision is an implication of the change in the share ownership composition of PT PSS.
“Actually, what I did in Persis Solo with Oxford, is not much different. Improving management, regenerating, making both of them better. It’s not an easy thing, but nothing is impossible,” he said, quoted from a release received by CNBC Indonesia. .
“Especially for Solo and Aga, Aga wants to follow in the footsteps of my father who started the struggle from Solo. Solo was the first city my father struggled to separate from his family for school,” he said.
