In 2017, Neymar left Barcelona for PSG, but has never returned. His ex-agent still believes in it – and in a reunion with Messi.
Andre Cury, the former advisor to Paris Saint-Germains superstar Neymar, is certain that his former client will play for FC Barcelona again – and that together with Lionel Messi.
“The door is open for Neymar in Barcelona. The fans know he made a mistake and he realized it a little later,” Cury told the Argentine medium The coastline and revealed: “Two years ago Neymar formally asked me to be able to return to Barcelona. We tried and were very close to breaking him away from PSG. But it didn’t work because of a few details.”
Neymar and Messi together for Barca? Cury relies on Laporta
Neymar moved from Barca to Paris in 2017 for the world record transfer of 222 million euros. A return to Camp Nou has always been on the agenda since then, but it was most recently according to information from Goal and SPOX Promising talks about a long-term extension of the 29-year-old Brazilian’s contract, which runs until 2022, in Paris. At the end of January, Neymar had also publicly acknowledged PSG.
Cury is nonetheless confident that Neymar will play for Barca again – and thanks to the election of Joan Laporta as new president in early March, Messi will stay with the Catalans beyond the summer. “Laporta is the only one who can bring the two back together. Messi will not leave Barca, he has decided that his story should continue in Barcelona. Neymar will play with Messi again – for Barca,” said Cury.
There has also been speculation over the past few months whether Messi could join Neymar in Paris after the end of the season. The 33-year-old Argentine’s contract in Barcelona expires at the end of June, when he could move on for free. As everyone knows, Messi actually wanted to leave Barca last summer, but ultimately decided to stay. The six-time world footballer will only decide after the end of the current season where his future lies beyond June 30th.
