(Elbil24): I had just been to a press conference in London and took a taxi back to Heathrow with another Norwegian and a Swedish journalist. At a traffic light we spotted a very elaborate Bentley convertible, and the donning was duly commented on by the Norwegians in the back seat.
Then the Swede suddenly turns around and exclaims:
“What? Do you not see that there is a Tesla in front of us? “
At that time, Tesla was already a very common sight on Norwegian roads. That was clearly not the case in Sweden.
As common as Leaf
Today, it is definitely not Tesla you buy to stand out in the crowd. Recently, Tesla number 60,000 was delivered in Norway, according to the Road Traffic Information Council (OFV). This means that the Tesla brand is now becoming as common a sight on the roads as the Nissan Leaf, which this year celebrates its tenth anniversary.
According to Elbilstatistikk.no, around 66,000 Nissan Leaf have been registered in Norway since 2011. No other electric car model has so far been registered in several copies. If we take into account that some of these have already reached the end of their life cycle, there may not be much difference between the number of Tesla and the number of Leaf on the roads in 2021.
The Tesla share is distributed correctly enough on four models: Roadster, Model S, Model 3 and Model X. The number of registered is distributed as follows:
Number of registered Teslas as of 19.3.2021
model |
Number of registered |
Share of the electric car market |
Tesla Model 3 | 25253 | 6.69 % |
Tesla Model S | 21123 | 5.60 % |
Tesla Model X | 13833 | 3.67 % |
Tesla Roadster | 111 | – |
Total: | 60320 |

– 2021 is set to be an exciting year for Tesla in Norway. European production of Model Y is expected to begin in mid-2021, and in the autumn the updated versions of Model S and Model X will also arrive in the country, says Tesla’s communications manager in Norway, Even Sandvold Roland, in a comment.
At the same time, the industry website Bilbransje24 reports that Tesla will now staff as many as 50 people in Norway in the nearest future.

The steering wheel debate
The updates of Model S and Model X have received a lot of media attention this winter, especially for one detail: The steering wheel is not round, but has got a so-called butterfly design that is reminiscent of what you find in the cockpit of an airplane.
Many claim that the steering wheel is just a gimmick and that the cars will get around the steering wheel before they are handed out to customers. So far, nothing has been confirmed, but the Norwegian Public Roads Administration has stated to Elbil24 that there is no requirement for cars to have around the wheel. Then time will tell what will be the decision for Tesla’s part.

How happy are the Tesla owners?
Elbil24 conducted a large survey this winter where we asked our readers, among other things, how satisfied they were with their electric cars. We often hear about people who experience faults and problems with their Teslas, but by and large the owners are very happy.
It turned out that most Tesla owners landed on roll 5, and when we looked at the average, Model 3, S and X ended up in places 6, 7 and 8 on the satisfaction scale. Read more about the results here:

We also asked readers how happy they were with the range, and here the Tesla ended up in place, 3, 4 and 6 respectively:
