A father was to answer for “manslaughter by manifest violation of an obligation of safety or prudence”, Tuesday March 16, before the criminal court of Draguignan (Where). A tragedy took place at the home of the defendant, in his absence, on April 10, 2016, reports Var-Matin.
His 17-year-old son, a competitive shooter, was at his home in Rocbaron (Var), with friends. He had pulled out his weapons and handled a 9mm Glock in front of his guests. The weapon had been offered to the teenager to reward him with a title of champion of France in sports shooting, obtained two years earlier, tell our colleagues. That night, a gunshot accidentally went off, killing a 15-year-old. The shooter had been indicted.
Decision on April 13
The father of the family is said to have given a duplicate of the keys to the safe containing the weapons to his son. He explained to the court that his son was not allowed to take out his weapons in his absence. The defendant also indicated that he had not checked if his son had put away the weapons that evening, after his shooting session, indicates the regional daily.
The public prosecutor requested three years in prison, two of which were suspended for the accused. The court is expected to render its decision on April 13.
