One side of the fear of exposure to the virus in a hospital where we will have a checkup is the reason you are better off at home.
Even though we also know that the hospital is one of the professionals in dealing with this matter, but no matter how small there must be our fear of it.
However, there are dangers lurking if you are afraid to visit to have yourself checked, one of which is a disease that can secretly take your eyesight, aka blindness.
You can answer yourself what if that happens? Horrible isn’t it!
You’re not mistaken it must be Glaucoma! in commemoration of WorldGlaucomaWeek 2021 which falls on March 7-13, 2021, eye care leader, Jakarta Eye Center (JEC), Eye Hospitals and Clinics, initiated a webinar for the public with the aim of making you aware of what, why and how dangerous glaucoma is.

1. Understand what is glaucoma
Dok. JEC—
Glaucoma is an eye disease which causes the fluid pressure in the eyeball to be too high, so that the pressure can damage the nerve fibers of the eye that carry visual signals from the eye to the brain.
Generally, sufferers will experience an imbalance in the fluid cycle (a problem in the drainage channel) which results in increased pressure on the eyeball – above 21 mmHg.
“Galucoma is an eye disorder with signs of nerve damage, which is associated with eye pressure and visual field disorders. This damage is permanent and can lead to blindness,” said Dr. Iwan Soebijantoro, SpM (K), JEC Glaucoma Subspecialist Doctor, during a press conference (17/3).

This is the reason why this glaucoma is called the human sight thief.
It is very difficult to detect whether you at home have a tendency for eye pressure which may have the potential for Galucoma or not.
So, still according to Dr. Iwan, there needs to be regular professional examinations so that it is not too late to detect this disease.
“People usually only check for glaucoma when the road has stumbled or can’t walk in the dark. Therefore, it is necessary to check the eye pressure before it’s too late and it must be periodic for once a year,” said Dr. Iwan explains the habits of the Indonesian people.

5. Glaucoma is not a contagious disease
Dok. JEC—
Because glaucoma itself has a sign, namely reddened eyes, like other eye diseases, then you need to understand that glaucoma is not an eye disease with a viral infection.
This means that the disease is not transmitted to your communication partners Ma. So there’s no need to be afraid.
Even so, this disease is still very dangerous for life considering its undetectable nature that can take your vision at any time.
“If the eye is red, it depends on the eye disease. If red eye is suspected of having a viral infection, it is contagious! But if not, it will not be contagious. Glakumoa is not contagious, but if the red eyes are accompanied by decreased vision or vision, immediately consult a doctor. “explained Dr. Iwan responded to one of the last topics of the press conference.
