COVID-19 positive cats in the Montreal area

Two cats from greater Montreal have become the first known cases of animals in Quebec diagnosed positive for COVID-19.

Declared positive in February, the first is now cured. He would not have presented any symptoms, apart from signs of depression. A second confirmed case was brought to the attention of Dr. Cécile Aenishaenslin, researcher and professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Montreal on Thursday.

His team is studying the risks of COVID transmission in cats.

We have little information about the second case, but we should not worry since the virus would not be very fatal for this species, according to her.

Small quarantine

Like humans, cats are quarantined during their period of positivity. This would go up to 7 days, rather than 10 to 15 for humans.
