Police suspect the man assaulted an 83-year-old Asian man in the same neighborhood just before the incident. It is being investigated whether there was indeed a racist motive.
Police have been extra patrolling the Asian neighborhood of San Francisco since six Asian women and two others were shot by a 21-year-old man in Atlanta last week. The perpetrator gives as an explanation for his act that he was frustrated.
