(CRHoy.com). -As CRHoy.com announced yesterday, the Fund confirmed this Thursday that from March 15 to 31 will not apply first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to people in group 2 (over 58 years old).
During this period, second doses will only be given to older adults who have already received the first.
This means that during March no more people in this group will be vaccinated for the first time, so its advance will stop.
But during these 2 weeks the CCSS Yes, it will apply first doses to people in priority group 1 who have not yet been immunized, mainly from emergency forces and health professionals from the private sector.
The application of first doses was also canceled for the previous March 11 and 12 dates.
According to the CCSS, if these days the first doses had been put, the second would have to be placed during Holy Week, what collides with the holidays of this period.
So, they preferred to temporarily stop vaccination these days.
Slow and questioned process
The vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in Costa Rica has been described as slow by specialists and health boards. As well the way in which the CCSS determines which regions receive the most vaccines has been questioned, which affects that some parts of the country advance faster than others.
Recently, the Board of Health of the canton of Montes de Oca asked the CCSS to make transparent the criteria through which doses are granted to each health area. This because while there are communities in which progress has been made rapidly, there are others in which the minimum quota arrives.
A comparison between 35 of the countries that make up the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and Costa Rica, which is a candidate for membership, Lets see that the country has the least doses of the COVID-19 vaccine applied.
Since the previous December 24 and up to now, only people in priority groups 1 and 2 have been vaccinated. This involves health and emergency response personnel. Also the older adult population residing in long-stay homes and the workers of these places. More recently, vaccination was started in people over 58 years of age.
Until last Monday, March 15, 248,082 vaccines had been applied. Of these 57,994 (23%) are second doses.
