A 31-year-old woman from Villach has not been legally sentenced to nine months of unconditional imprisonment for grossly negligent homicide. The car driver crashed head-on into a vehicle in Rosegg at the beginning of November. She confessed.

White splashes, cocktails and spirits – the list of drinks the 31-year-old consumed with her boyfriend in Villach was long. As judge Sabine Rossmann found, the woman should have had 1.4 per mille of alcohol in her blood – a not inconsiderable amount of alcohol. The next day – in the morning – she drank more glasses of Prosecco with friends. Then she got behind the wheel of her car and set off with friends to eat together in Rosegg.
On the opposite lane next to the cemetery
Directly next to the cemetery, her car took a right turn onto the left side of the road and hit an oncoming vehicle head-on. Your 24-year-old co-driver, a friend of the 31-year-old, died right at the scene of the accident. The driver herself and another passenger were seriously injured, the occupant of the second car was slightly injured.

She could not remember the accident itself, said the woman at the hearing on Thursday – only how she came to floating in the Drava and did not feel the cold. According to the criminal complaint, two and a half hours after the accident, the woman still measured 1.1 per thousand alcohol in her blood. She was overtired and affected by all the alcohol. She underestimated that it would continue to have an effect for so long. Otherwise she was always a careful driver, she said of herself.
The 31-year-old said with tears that she was sorry for everything. The verdict: nine months of unconditional imprisonment. The defendant accepted, the public prosecutor made no statement.
