All schoolchildren in Schleswig-Holstein can test themselves for the coronavirus once a week in school from next Monday (March 22nd). Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) described the self-tests, which are possible under supervision and only with the consent of the parents, as “a further building block for maintaining teaching”. The offer is initially valid until the Easter holidays. As announced, the first 230,000 tests were delivered to the school authorities today, and another 380,000 are to follow on Saturday, according to Prien.
The country had hoped for home self-tests
The tests are voluntary and are carried out by the students themselves. To do this, you have to twist a longer cotton swab in your nose, among other things. Originally, the country had hoped for self-tests at home, but because of the packaging in boxes of 25, you had to reschedule. “We had two options,” explained the Minister of Education: “Either we put our hands on our laps and wait for the perfect solution. Or we tackle it and say: We test.” The schools have been informed and information material suitable for children has been made available, according to Prien: “We assume that the children can take the tests.”
