Despite corona-related restrictions on fundraising, the Lions Club Mittelmain-Karlstadt managed to raise more than 30,000 euros in donations in 2020. In the past few years, the Lions Club has generated a significant portion of the donations through the sale of the Advent calendar. Due to the corona pandemic and the failure of the markets where the majority of the calendars were sold, this source of donations had completely failed. The Krempelladen team in Hauptstrasse had to work all the harder to close the gap by selling beautiful, curious and usable items from household resolutions.
The donations of the 39 members as well as private sponsors and companies contributed in 2020 to the fact that the Lions sponsoring association was able to generate more than 30,000 euros again. The collected donations were promptly used in 2020 for social and cultural purposes. Examples of social commitment were given to the Friends of the Otto and Anna Herold Retirement Home Foundation in Karlstadt, to the Congregation of the Sisters of the Erlser in Wrzburg for their project in Tanzania, to the support association of the primary school and to the forest kindergarten of the support association of St. Johannes in Karlburg substantial amounts donated. The largest single donation of 9,100 euros was used to support the specialist training of an ophthalmologist in Uganda. This sponsorship is provided annually for four years, true to the goals of Lions Club International to fight hardship worldwide.
Donations in the cultural field were also made. For a memorial project of the St. Josefs House in Gemnden on the occasion of the crimes of the National Socialists. The reading club of the city of Karlstadt during the summer holidays was supported again, as was the student exchange between the Friedrich-List-Gymnasium in Gemnden and Kosovo. In addition, a variety of both social and cultural purposes were supported.
As the President of 2020 and 2021, Armin Kraus, assures, efforts will also be made in 2021 to generate a similar amount of donations for the Lions Sponsoring Association, in order to meet the needs of the Lions Club International, both at home and internationally, in accordance with the goals of Lions Club International fight.
