The campaign was set up by the Dutch Cancer Society KWF. The organization states that people benefit from more awareness about their illness. “The five-year survival of patients with rare cancer is on average 16 percent lower compared to common cancers,” says KWF director Johan van de Gronden. “That survival rate has to go up. We are going to change that with the help of celebrities, patients, doctors, researchers and everyone who supports us. ”

Comedian Stefano Keizers also takes part in the action and is very impressed. “I am committed to the action because I find Merel’s story very impressive. She herself has had a rare cancer and with more awareness for this topic we can increase the chances of survival, ”says Keizers.

A cancer is rare if less than 6 in 100,000 Dutch people have this form. As many as 1 in 5 cancer patients has such a rare form. Every year this concerns 20,000 patients.
