WHO officially recommends Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine against Covid-19 / Article / LSM.lv

The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially recommended the use of a vaccine against Covid-19 developed by Johnson & Johnson’s. It has also previously received emergency authorization from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Commission (EC).

“After reviewing the evidence, we found that the vaccine was safe and effective enough. We recommend it for use by people over 18 years of age and do not set an upper age limit. This is a single-dose intramuscular vaccine and is a major benefit. It is possible to vaccinate more people, but its ability to protect against hospitalization, severe disease and death is similar to other drugs, “said WHO spokesman Alexander Kravioto.

The experts also looked at the possible side effects of the vaccine, including blood clots. The studies involved around 44,500 people, only half of whom received the vaccine.

This type of problem was found in 14 people who were vaccinated and in 10 people in the so-called placebo group.

To test whether the AstraZeneca vaccine can cause blood clots, a number of countries, including Latvia, have stopped using it this week. The WHO re-recommended the use of AstraZeneca for vaccination on Wednesday, March 17, as there is no evidence of a history of vaccination, and venous thromboembolism is the third most common cardiovascular disease in the world.

EZA also plans to address this issue on Thursday.
