New York governor refuses to resign despite numerous accusations of sexual harassment

“I will not resign”. It is said, Andrew Cuomo, the governor of the State of New York refused to resign this Friday. “I was not elected by politicians, I was elected by the people of New York State. They elected me and I will serve the peopleIt was his first public appearance since the first charges.

The man is accused of touching and sexual harassment. Since the end of February the complaints are linked. A total of eight women testified. Always on the same line of conduct, he ensures “not having done”The things he is accused of. He asks the citizens d” wait for the facts of the attorney general’s report before forming an opinion”.

I have never touched anyone inappropriately. I never knew then that I was making someone uncomfortable. And I certainly never meant to offend, hurt or hurt anyone.

Two new charges

This Friday, two new women testify against Andrew Cuomo. One is a journalist and accuses him of having had inappropriate gestures towards her to humiliate her. The facts date from 2012 and 2014. The other is one of her former employees, she expresses how uncomfortable the governor has made her.

The pressure against Andrew Cuomo is growing as these last two testimonies follow six others in two weeks. Last Wednesday, it was one of its employees who made the most serious accusations. The governor would have put his hand under his blouse in 2020. These accusations definitely tarnish the reputation of this 63-year-old governor, in power for 10 years.

Democrats’ support soared

For the moment, A. Cuomo assures that he can continue to govern while awaiting the results of the investigation. But the governor’s democratic support is slowly fading. Influential New York Democrats elected to the House of Representatives demanded his departure after his last statements on Friday. If the resignation requests were numerous since last Wednesday, they have almost doubled now. We find Chuck Schumer, leader of the Democrats in the Senate or Kirsten Gilibrand, Senator for the State of New York.

The governor’s term ends in 2022 and he says he has no intention of leaving his post by then. An investigation into the various testimonies was opened last Thursday by a parliamentary committee. Investigation which could sign the first stage of a possible impeachment procedure. No deadline is currently mentioned for the end of this investigation which could last for months. It is in any case in addition to that already launched by the state prosecutor last Monday.
