World Recycling Day takes place this Thursday, March 18. If sorting makes it possible to avoid 1.6 million tonnes of CO2 each year according to a 2019 Ipsos study for Citéo, this figure could increase further in the years to come. The Ressourceries, structures which recover, enhance and resell objects, are increasingly successful. Like La Ressourcerie de la Rade * in Toulon (Var) which receives more and more donations and buyers.
10 times more customers than a year ago
“We receive between four and five tons of objects every week. Objects normally intended for the trash. And we’re really starting to get cramped in these rooms. “ explains Cédric Lambert, the manager. Once deposited in the courtyard of 28 rue Commandant Jean Loste in the Font Pré district, 92% of the furniture, books, dishes or toys are sorted and resold.
There are more and more second-hand shopping enthusiasts: “When we opened a year ago, we had ten customers per day in our two stores … Today, there are about a hundred.”
Call for volunteer-handymen
When furniture, for example, cannot be sold because it is too damaged, La Ressourcerie de la Rade recycles! At the back of the warehouse, back-to-work employees sand and screw wooden planks for turn into compost bins.
The association also hopes to be able to repair small household appliances or electronic devices: “We are appealing to volunteers who are a bit handy, because our goal is to recycle even more objects so that we too can reduce our waste “ concludes Cédric Lambert.
* The Ressourcerie de la Rade has two sales sites in Toulon: 28 rue Commandant Jean Loste (Font Pré) and 16 rue Danton (Saint-Jean-du-Var) – 07.50.06.77.05.
