The White House intends to revise its policy towards Pyongyang in the “coming weeks,” the head of the State Department said.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken did not deny that the new US administration is considering a military option as part of an ongoing review of policy towards North Korea. Department of State published on Wednesday, March 17, the text of the interview of the head of the department to the Japanese television channel TV Asahi.
The journalist asked Blinken if Washington is considering a military option against Pyongyang.
“Well, what we will be looking at and are looking at in this review is an analysis of the various pressure opportunities as well as the various opportunities for diplomatic efforts, and let’s see what we can do. We want to be sure we complete this process. we will share our findings and conclusions with our closest partners in Japan and South Korea, and then we will work on it together, “Blinken replied.
He said that the review process involved non-governmental experts, former high-ranking officials, as well as representatives from South Korea and Japan. Blinken stressed that “the revision is in full swing” and expressed the hope that it “will be completed in the coming weeks.”
Also, the head of the State Department sharply criticized the DPRK, accusing its leadership of systematic violation of the rights of its own citizens. About this he said during a meeting with his South Korean counterpart Jung Ui Young in Seoul, where he arrived on his first overseas tour in this capacity.
“The authoritarian North Korean regime continues the systematic and widespread practice of violating the rights of its own citizens,” Blinken stressed. “We must rise up to defend fundamental rights and freedoms against those who trample on them.”
We will remind, immediately after the inauguration of President Joe Biden in office, it was reported that the United States plans to prepare a new strategy for North Korea and pursue a course to contain Pyongyang.
