An American woman gave birth to the first baby with antibodies to Covid-19 as a result of vaccination. Her doctors announced this today, writes the British newspaper The Guardian.

It concerns a nurse from the state of Florida, who was vaccinated against the corona virus when she was 36 weeks pregnant. Three weeks later, she gave birth to “a vibrant and healthy girl,” her doctors said. They examined the blood from the umbilical cord and detected antibodies in it that were present at birth.
“To our knowledge, this is the first case in the world where a baby was born with antibodies as a result of vaccination,” the doctors write in a study. “So there is potential for protection against Covid-19 infection through maternal vaccination,” the conclusion was drawn.
This does state some caveat: “Further research is needed to determine whether children are protected by these antibodies against the virus, and if so, for how long.” The doctors in question therefore call on their colleagues to keep accurate records of vaccinations during pregnancy.
