In the Community Integration Center of Oro Verde, an external blood collection was carried out this Wednesday with the registration of potential bone marrow donors.
In this regard, the head of the Hemotherapy service of the San Roque de Paraná maternal and child hospital, Liliana Bustamante, told Elonce TV around 40 donors attended, of which “the majority are noted in the registry” for bone marrow.
The professional stated that “last year, in the early days of the pandemic, we did well, because we gave donors turns. Then there was a major fall, as everywhere. Now we begin again with the closed collections, in which we previously contact people and evaluate if they can come closer due to their medical history ”.
After stating that the arrival of new appliances allows “having very good quality and quantity of platelets. In addition, it is a cell separator and is used for therapeutic purposes ”, he highlighted what the solidarity gesture of donating blood means for children with onco-hematological diseases”.
For her part, Mariana Ramírez, representing Cucaier, highlighted the relevance of these collections and stated that it is very important to register the will to donate bone marrow. “They can be over 18 and under 40 who are in good health. This can happen to all of us and we have only a 25 percent chance of finding a compatible donor in the family. The registry is worldwide due to the difficulty of finding the compatibility ”, he emphasized.
